 Another Tree Must Go

PHOTO: Base of the Ash tree showing extensive loss of bark due to fungal infectionFor some time now, a hard working team of volunteers has been battling to save a number of trees around the children's play park at the rear of our church.

We have been advised by Ben Sylvester of Mid Beds Council that the largest remaining tree, an Ash of about 30 ft in height, has a fungal infection of the roots which is already spreading up the trunk causing a loss of bark. Eventually the tree will die and could become unsafe.

Nearly £300 was spent pruning this tree last November, and many hours were put in by our volunteers removing ivy from it and several other trees in the viscinity.

In view of the tree's size and proximity to both Church Walk and the children's play area, members of the PCC met today and agreed to arrange for the tree's complete removal as soon as possible.

Can You Help?

It is hoped that our Messengers group (for 3 to 9 year olds) will be joining the Merry-Go-Round 10 Mile sponsored walk on Sunday 6th June to raise funds to help off-set the high cost of this work.

If you can help with sponsorship of our youngsters, please contact Stephen Lines on 01462 639479, or send a message to our webteam via the contact us page. Thank you.
