Betty Push 2010

YES, HERE IT IS AGAIN!

Saturday 11th September 2010 saw the second successful outing of our famous "Betty Push" team - Betty Bird, pushed by the intrepid Frank Bond and Ian Mercer.

Their epic journey this year covered an estimated 15 miles, starting at 10am from All Saints Church Stondon then onto Meppershall (very steep hill to push up), Shillington (even steeper hill), Upper Gravenhurst, Lower Gravenhurst, Upper Gravenhurst again, Campton, Shefford, Clifton and Henlow, finishing at 5pm with a well-earned meal at the Crown in Henlow.

The weather was fairly challenging, with gusty winds for most of the day, and a heavy shower around midday. Frank Bond tells us that Betty braved the elements in sensational style!

This imaginative event was to raise funds for the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Historic Churches Trust who gave us a very generous grant towards the re-roofing of St Michael's.

The Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Historic Churches Trust has previously enjoyed funding of around £400,000 a year from local landfill taxes, but unfortunately that has now been significantly reduced, making them very much reliant on fund-raising events such as this.

It's not too late to sponsor the Betty Push Team, or make a donation - just contact Ian Mercer...
