 Thanks From Spurgeon's

Spurgeon's Childcare LogoYou may recall that earlier this year we made our first 'Outward Giving' donation to Spurgeon's Childcare, based in Bedford.

The following is a transcript of a letter received from Lynne Summerfield, their Child Care Services Manager:

I write to thank you for your very kind donation of £600.00 to Spurgeon's Family Centre - we are delighted you unanimously chose Spurgeon's Family Centre for this donation!

You may be aware that Spurgeon's Family Centre works in partnership with Social Services, the NHS, Early Years and Child Care, on a very wide range of projects, both within the Centre and in outreach work. Our main aim is to try to prevent family breakdown and children coming into care, which is always emotionally damaging for everyone concerned. We also provide contact rooms for those children who are already in care to meet with their families, a scheme to appoint voluntary adult befrienders for children in care, a childminding scheme for children with disabilities and a new project for Young Carers (children who care for disabled parent(s)/sibling(s), offering them information and support). Recently we have become involved in running a crèche and refreshments at Bedford Prison for visitors, a Community Cafe in Kempston and an after school club.

You specifically requested that the money be used for the Young Carers Scheme if possible, and we will honour this request. However we do hope that you won't mind us using £100 of this money for family support as this is an area also in need of funding at this time.

As you will gather from the above, we feel our work is very important to help the most vulnerable and needy members of the local community. However, without the help of donations from people such as yourself, we would not be able to help as much as we do. Your donation is very much appreciated.

Once again, thank you.

Best wishes.
Yours sincerely

Lynne Summerfield

Child Care Services Manager
