 Christmas Gift to Shefford Library

Photo: Rev Steve Summerfield presents books to Shefford Library on behalf of Shefford Churches Working Together

A set of 11 books that explore the basis of the Christian faith was given by Shefford Churches working together to Shefford Library. The collection was presented to Elinor Groom, the chief librarian on Friday December 5th as an early Christmas gift. Rev Steve Summerfield, on behalf of the Shefford Churches, said that "It was important for people to have opportunities to read about the basics of the Christian faith, in the comfort of their own home. It is hoped that this will be the beginning of regular book donations, over time."

The presentation is part of a national scheme, Christian Book Promotions, founded in 1968. It recommends a set a mainstream religious books chosen by a national panel of literary experts from all the major denominations. Over the past twelve months, 148 placements have been made in libraries across Britain.

Money for the books was given by each of the congregations, and is part of the ongoing work of the Shefford Churches working together, which includes regular Healing & Wholeness services, and Alpha courses amongst other things such as the Advent labyrinth which they are running for the first time this December.

Among the books presented to the library are "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, and "What's so amazing about grace?" by Philip Yancey.
