Sparks Melt The Ice At Meppershall!

LOGO: Sparks Christian Holiday Club10am on Monday 14th February 2005 saw St Mary's Church in Meppershall lightly encrusted with frozen snow and buffeted by a bone-bightingly cold wind. Not the best of starts to the Benefice's second Sparks Christian Holiday Club event for 7-12 year olds you might think.

PHOTO: Sparks giving an enthusiastic rendition of their theme song, the "Wa Wa" songFortunately, our Sparks group, meeting for the very first time at St Mary's, are made of "sterner stuff".

Their enthusiasm rapidly transformed our beautiful (but very cold) church into a warm and vibrant space. You could actually feel the building smiling as the 31 children started to explore the St. Valentine themed events, including the Big Paint (giant banners on the theme of God's love and the story of St Valentine), an Interactive Drama based on the story of St Valentine, a Treasure Hunt, 2 outdoor games of Crocker (a whacky version of cricket played with a rugby ball), the Sparks Challenge (rescuing broken-hearted creatures from a gallon of cold lumpy custard), and an energetic rendition of the Sparks Theme Tune - the Wa Wa song.

As if that wasn't enough, there were also a number of craft workshops including:

  • Glass painting
  • Love bugs
  • Heart Biscuits
  • Badge making
  • Prayer hearts
  • Gift boxes

The large banners and some of the craft items will be on display in St Mary's for a week or so - do try to come and have a look.

You can also get a flavour of the day by clicking through our photo-montage...

The next Sparks event will be a short gift-making session at St Michaels on Mothering Sunday.

The next full-scale event will be in July - we'll be publishing details and registration forms soon, so keep an eye out for the posters, and news on our web site...
