Getting Agreement - The 'Family Contract'
Technical solutions, such as 'Net Nanny' software can offer some protection
to you and your family, but the first and most important step is to discuss
the potential problems and threats, and then agree a 'code of conduct'
for the whole family.
Writing a suitable agreement can be difficult, but if you take a look
at www.safekids.com you will find
a very well written "Family Contract for Online
Safety / Kids' Pledge". This printable contract contains 8
'pledges' written in easy to understand language. It should be discussed
with your child(ren) before you ask them to sign it so that they understand
what they are agreeing to and why (and you know that they do).
You also sign the contract after the parent's pledge which reads "I
will help my child follow this agreement and will allow reasonable use
of the Internet as long as these rules and other family rules are followed".
