Weathervane Restoration Begins

After a great deal of planning, including special permission granted by the DAC, the restoration of our rather tired old weathervane has finally begun.

Made mostly of wrought iron, it has succombed to the dreaded rust, with the letter "W" falling off later last year. So, for safety as well as aesthetic reasons the PCC sought quotes for the work which will include the re-gilding of some of the parts.

Specialist steeplejacks, Messrs Rodells did a fine job of removing the vane from the tower this morning despite the low temperature and biting wind. Like all expert craftsmen who are good at their jobs they made it look easy!

Speculation has already begun as to whether the weather will improve once the weathervane has been restored and replaced. We'll have to wait and see, but a prayer or two in that direction wouldn't hurt would it?
