Sponsored Betty Push
Saturday
September 12th saw an intrepid team from St Michael's setting off on a
sponsored "Betty Push" to raise funds for Herts and Beds Historic
Churches Trust.
The Herts and Beds Historic Churches Trust gives grants to help with
repairs etc. to historic Churches in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. We
received a very generous grant from them recently which helped us to re-roof
our Church. Once a year they have a fund raising event where cyclists
and walkers can get sponsorship for travelling between their choice of
over 6,000 Churches. The Betty Push, together with our "meet &
greet" team at St Michael's is our contribution to this important
event.
Betty
Bird, who's granparents lived in Upper Stondon remembers frequent visits
to Upper Stondon Church as a girl; always with a penny clasped tightly
in her hand to put in the collection plate.
The pushers, Ian Mercer and Frank Bond have been on a gruelling training
regime to prepare for todays epic push, culminating in an 8am "full
English" at Carrie's Café in Shefford to set them up for the
day ahead...
From
Upper Stondon, the team headed off up the hill to our sister church at
Meppershall. In all, the Betty Push team visited an amazing total of twelve
Churches:
- Upper Stondon
- Meppershall
- Shillington
- Upper Gravenhurst (2 Churches)
- Lower Gravenhurst
- Campton
- Shefford (2 Churches)
- Clifton
- Henlow (2 Churches)
The team finished with a well-earned meal at The Crown at Henlow where
their hi-vis jackets and balloons attracted some welcome additional donations.
The Betty Push has raised £240! Our thanks to everyone
who generously sponsored this event, or gave donations on the day.
