After The Famine 2006...

On the 1st - 2nd April, the Shefford YNU youth group fasted for 24 hours. We had a great time with a huge amount of support from the local community. The money came from Bag Packing at Somerfields raising £174.20. The bring & buy and coin collection at St. Michael's church raising £227.82. Plus sponsors and donations.

On Sunday we visited Shefford Methodist, St. Michael's and All Angels and then Shefford Baptist with a brief summary of the famine and a short drama showing how children as young as 5 were kidnapped and forced to fight in the 10 year war in Sierra Leone. Now there has been peace for 2 years they are trying to rebuild their lives and their country.

We have a rough estimate of the amount raised a HUGE £1,016 . We will know the exact amount in a few weeks time. Of course there is still time for more donations - phone Jenny on 01462 626101 or drop them in to 95 Clifton Rd Shefford.

For the first time, some Adults who were not part of the group fasted to show their support - thanks.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us either financially or practically.

GOD BLESS

Jenny, Jackie and all the (tired and hungry) young people of YNU.

Ps. lots of people ask us what YNU means….. it stands for Y not U or why not you.

Date: Saturday 1st April 2006
