Three Counties Choir

On Sunday December 16th, we were privileged to welcome the Three Counties Choir to sing a "Festival Of Winter Music" to a packed audience of music lovers.

The Three Counties Choir was formed in February 2010 by its Director, Louise Winstone, and practices once a month in Henlow, Bedfordshire. The Choir takes its members from branches of the famous Stagecoach organisation, and was set up to give young people the opportunity to meet together to learn about singing all kinds of music.

And boy, have they been learning! About thirty of them travelled to perform for us (coming from as far afield as Colchester, Kent and Milton Keynes).

Winter illnesses had hit several of the planned soloists, but with a genuine "Show must go on" spirit, all the vacant slots were filled despite there being very little time to practice.

The delightful show contained a wide variety of Christmas music, both religious and secular, interspersed with readings by Louise Winston.

The choir was lead by Sarah Middleton, and the accompanist was our very own Judith Robinson.

Judith was actually responsible for organising this event, including publicity, getting sponsors, learning a lot of new music and baking around 170 cupcakes!

As always with a St Michael's event, there were lots of cakes - three trestle-tables full to be precise, and an additional artistic touch (again by Judith) in the form of a "Cupcake Code" on one end of the table cloth, a bit like the key you get inside a box of chocolates!

Although entry was free, donations were requested, and after deducting the choir's very conservative expenses we made in excess of £200.

In these difficult times, we would like to say an especially big "THANK YOU" to all the local businesses who sponsored this event - we've listed them below as a "Role of Honour" - please make sure you continue to support these businesses because they are all doing their bit to support Shefford:

  • Robert Lucas Trust
  • Branching Out
  • Comfort Homecare
  • Country Properties
  • Creations
  • Daisy Cakes Online
  • Headlines
  • Lemon Plaice Fish and Chips
  • Nearly Nouveau Dress Agency
  • Saga Homecare
  • Shefford Markets
  • Spitfire Travel
  • Stephen Hing Opticians
  • The Dolls House
  • White Hart Hotel

Finally, if you ever get an opportunity to hear this choir sing, take it - you will not be disappointed!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!
